What's in the Course?
MA1 is all about teaching you the basics of costing and how businesses make smart decisions by using internal information. You will understand the difference between Management Accounting, which is done for and used by people inside a company (such as managers), and Financial Accounting, which is targeted toward and used by people outside the company, such as investors. You are going to learn the proper classification and recording of all the different costs a business has, including the cost of materials, labor, and other expenses. You will cover core stuff in your syllabus like:
Cost Concepts What is a cost? How do you determine the cost of a product or service?
Data handling: Where does a business get its financial information from, and how do they use coding in order to organize it?
Costing Techniques: Basic methods of costing, including concepts such as cost centers, where costs are collected; and cost units, what you are costing.
Working with Spreadsheets: Getting comfortable using simple spreadsheets to handle this type of data is an essential skill.
Quite simply, it is about coming to grips with the numbers that a manager needs to know to plan and control things.
