ABOUT F4 LAW (GLOBAL) SUBJECT

Understanding F4 Law (GLOBAL)

What is F4 law in Global?

ACCA F4 Global (LW-GLO), also known as Corporate and Business Law (Global), forms one of those unique milestones in your ACCA journey. While the rest of the subjects vary in their basic concepts with numbers and formulas, this particular subject is all about the "rules of the game." It teaches you the legal framework which keeps the international business world running smoothly. If you pursue a career in a global firm or a multinational corporation, this subject gives you the necessary legal literacy that will be required in order for you to remain compliant and make informed decisions.

What makes this "global" variant special?

When you choose the Global version of the Law exam, you're not going to be learning just the laws in one specific country like the UK or Ireland. On the contrary, you are studying how business works across borders. You'll explore international treaties such as the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods, or the CISG, and discover how disputes are resolved by arbitration, as well as in traditional courts. This is a wider perspective perfect for those desiring an internationally mobile career.

A Simple Breakdown of the Syllabus

The syllabus is then presented in eight key areas that follow the "life cycle" of a business. It begins with a discussion of Essential Elements of Legal Systems, where you learn about various legal traditions and how they interact in a global context. You then continue with International Business Transactions, exploring how contracts are formed when the two companies are in different countries.

The middle section covers Business Organisations. You’ll learn the difference between being a sole trader, a partnership, or a corporation. A huge part of the exam focuses on Company Law, specifically how companies are formed, how they are financed (shares vs. loans), and how they are managed by directors. Finally, the syllabus looks at the "dark side" of business—Insolvency (what happens when a company runs out of money) and Corporate Fraudulent Behaviour, such as money laundering and insider dealing.

Understanding the Exam Format

ACCA F4 Global is a 2-hour Computer-Based Exam - CBE, and the good news is that there are no long, scary essays! The exam is worth 100 marks, and you need 50% to pass. It is split into two sections: Section A carries 70 marks, comprising of 45 MCQs. Few are for 2 marks, and the remaining are for 1 mark. These questions may also spring up from any corner of the syllabus, so you need to have a broad base of knowledge. Section B (30 Marks): This will have 5 questions described as "Multi-task Questions" which are worth 6 marks each. These are scenario-based, where you apply the law to a realistic story. For example, you might be asked to advise a director who has inadvertently committed a breach of the rules. How to study without getting overwhelmed. The key to passing F4 Global is to understand, not merely memorize. There are some Latin terms such as ultra vires or res ipsa loquitur, but you don't have to be a walking dictionary. Focus on the principles. Ask yourself: Why does this law exist? Who is it trying to protect? And since it is a Multiple Choice Question-heavy exam, practicing via a Revision Kit-BPP or Kaplan-is your best friend. The more questions you see, the more you'll recognize the "tricks" the examiner uses. Also, take the time to read the Examiner's Reports; they are goldmines of information that tell you exactly where previous students went wrong and how you can avoid the same traps.
